Before you vote —
See who is fighting for us!

NUHW endorses candidates who support our members’ top policy goals: workers’ rights, health care for all, mental health parity, and equal rights for all people.

Dear NUHW Member:

Over the past several months NUHW members across California have interviewed candidates for local, state, and federal races and made endorements that were then ratified by member-elected Executive Board.

We can count on the endorsed candidates listed here to support us — and all working people — in fighting for fair contracts and better working conditions.

We’re excited to help elect our endorsed candidates to further our movement and protect our democracy.

Please be sure to fill out, sign, and return your ballot before November 5.

Sophia Mendoza, President and Vanessa Coe, Secretary-Treasurer

NUHW endorses Kamala Harris for president

Our endorsement is based on two decades of experience working hand-in-hand with Vice President Harris to improve the lives of California’s working families and reflects her leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to defending democracy.

California Ballot Propositions

PROP 2: YES

Money for School Facility Repairs

Issues $10 billion in bonds to fund construction and modernization of public education facilities.

PROP 3: YES

Right to Marry and Repeal Proposition 8 Amendment

Currently the California Constitution provides that only a marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California, and federal law permanently enjoins the state from enforcing this constitutional provision. This measure would repeal this unenforceable provision and provide that the right to marry is a fundamental right.

PROP 4: YES

Parks, Environment, Energy, and Water Bond Measure

Issues $10 billion in bonds to fund state and local parks, environmental protection projects, water infrastructure projects, energy projects, and flood protection projects.

PROP 5: YES

California Lower Supermajority Requirement to 55% for Local Special Taxes to Fund Housing and Public Infrastructure Amendment

A “yes” vote supports lowering the vote threshold from 66.67% to 55% for local special taxes and bond measures to fund housing projects and public infrastructure.

PROP 6: YES

California Remove Involuntary Servitude as Punishment for Crime Amendment

The California Constitution prohibits slavery and prohibits involuntary servitude, except as punishment to a crime. This measure would instead prohibit slavery in any form, including forced labor compelled by the use or threat of physical or legal coercion.

PROP 32: YES

California $18 Minimum Wage Initiative

A “yes” vote supports increasing the state minimum wage to $18 per hour by 2026 for all employers and thereafter adjusting the rate annually by increases to the cost of living.

PROP 33: YES

California Prohibit State Limitations on Local Rent Control Initiative

A “yes” vote supports lowering the vote threshold from 66.67% to 55% for local special taxes and bond measures to fund housing projects and public infrastructure.

PROP 36: NO

Increase Drug Crime And Theft Penalties and Allow a New Class of Crime to be Called Treatment-Mandated Felony

A “yes” vote supports making changes to Prop. 47, approved in 2014, including:1) classifying certain drug offenses as treatment-mandated felonies; 2) increasing penalties for certain drug crimes; 3) requiring courts to warn individuals convicted of distributing illegal drugs of their potential future criminal liability if they distribute deadly drugs (e.g., fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine); and 4) increasing sentences for theft based on value of property stolen.
