Howard Wallace

Howard Wallace was an organizer, peace activist, and champion for gay rights. He was organizing workers since the 1950s. He organized for immigrants, and against the Vietnam War. He founded Bay Area Gay Liberation (BAGL) in 1975 and worked with Harvey Milk on a labor strike at Coors Brewing Company in 1975 to protest the company’s homophobic practices. He also organized the first March On Washington for Gay Rights in 1979. He is perhaps best known for creating a national organization that united both the LGBT and labor movements – the AFL-CIO’s Pride at Work (formerly the Lesbian Gay Labor Alliance).
