NUHW kicked off its Organizer-in-Training Program this month with an intensive three-day course that was attended by 15 NUHW members and allies interested in building their organizing skills and potentially becoming union organizers.
On Day Two of the training, participants listened to a panel discussion by member-leaders in NUHW’s Southern California Kaiser Behavioral Health Unit, whose nearly 2,400 members have been on strike since last October. The panelists, Marisela Calvillo, Ignacio Cano, Amy Dinovo, and Adriana Webb, answered questions and discussed how they continue to build solidarity more than three months into their strike.
The three-day intensive course will be followed by the launch of NUHW’s broader Organizer-in-Training Program, in which selected participants from the three-day training will take part in a three-month, full-time paid organizing internship.
Participants in the broader program will be placed on a variety of campaigns across NUHW, during which they will receive a combination of structured training, hands-on practice on their campaign, and mentorship from experienced organizers.
Stay tuned for the next training!
