Kaiser Mental Health Care Strike: Day 75

We rang in the new year resolved in our fight to improve Kaiser’s broken mental health system. And while Kaiser paraded around the idea that it’s “shifting paradigms in care” at the Rose Parade, we leafletted the attendees of the float viewing event to help them better understand our strike.

In December alone, we heard from an average of four Kaiser members per day who have been failed by Kaiser’s broken mental health system. The stories reflect Kaiser’s long-term habit of delaying, denying and cancelling mental health care appointments even before the strike.

Picket line notes

  • San Diego was busy this week with both Fox and ABC San Diego visiting the strike line for interviews, and the San Diego Labor Council providing a very generous grocery drop for us.
  • Morale continues to be high across the lines with community showing up and stopping by in support

Bargaining Update
Next Thursday, January 9, is our first bargaining date back to the table with Kaiser in months. Based on our experiences bargaining with Kaiser, we do not anticipate aggressive movement in management’s proposals.

We have scheduled an all-member virtual town hall for Sunday, January 12 at 10 a.m. Stay tuned for a registration link via Mobilize.
