NUHW members will once again have a vote in deciding our union’s endorsement for California governor after we host the top seven Democratic candidates at 10 a.m. Sunday, September 28, during our annual Frontlines Leadership Conference in Los Angeles.
The 90-minute forum, presented in partnership with the Los Angeles Times and Spectrum News, will be streamed live on NUHW’s YouTube channels in English and Spanish and on the Los Angeles Times website. It will later be broadcast on Spectrum.
The forum will also be available on NUHW’s YouTube channels for viewing during the three days following the event, when NUHW members will cast their ballots to decide the union’s endorsement. The result will be announced on Thursday, October 2.
Participating in the forum will be:
- Former Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins
- Former United States Health Secretary Xavier Bacerra
- Entrepreneur Stephen Cloobeck
- Former Congressmember Katie Porter
- California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond
- Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa
- Former State Controller Betty Yee
Lisa Matthews of the Associated Press returns as the moderator and will ask questions submitted by NUHW members. The candidates will also take questions from Melanie Mason, Politico’s California Politics Reporter; Amrit Singh, Anchor and Host for Spectrum News 1; and Phil Willon, the California Politics Editor for the Los Angeles Times.
“We’re proud that NUHW has become the launching point for major statewide races, and we’re excited for our members to continue to learn more about the candidates who are running to be our next governor before they decide our union’s endorsement,” said NUHW President Emeritus Sal Rosselli.
