Kaiser Mental Health Care Strike: Day 12

We wrapped up an energetic second week on the picket line with a couple of special guests. At Los Angeles Medical Center, the band Ozomatli performed on the picket line!

At Panorama City, Isidra “Lulu” Favela, who went viral on Tiktok supporting her therapist, Roxana, visited striking workers. Lulu said she felt lots of warmth and love talking to people on the picket line. She gave a short speech and took some time to talk to a radio reporter on the scene before heading out for the Dodgers’ victory parade.

Our strike isn’t new anymore, but it’s still generating news. Three TV stations covered our picket line Thursday in Bakersfield. We got coverage from a station in Tijuana and one striking worker recorded an interview with a podcast based in Germany. Chris Reeves, a Psych RN, and Lisa Carroll, a Medical Social Worker, are also featured this week on the Working Person Podcast.

There’s also media interest in Kaiser’s paltry plan to ensure that its members get the treatment they need during the strike. A reporter from Los Angeles’ NPR affiliate interviewed our lead researcher about this week, and a story should be posted by Monday.

This is a big week ahead. There will be a lot more attention focused on the November 5 election than our picket lines. Kaiser knows that. But when the dust settles, we will still emerge strong, and Kaiser will face increased pressure to start working hard to reach an equitable agreement.

Hardship Funds
We’re spreading the word about the strike fund, seeking donations from allies. If you haven’t reached out to people in your life, the two-week mark is a good time to share the Hardship Donation link with friends and family, and ask them to donate whatever they can.

Monday is the deadline to request the first round of hardship funds. If you’d like to request funds, check out the Hardship Fund FAQs and Disbursement Rules and fill out the Hardship Fund Request Form

These links can all be found on our Psych-Social webpage, which also includes information about Financial Support Resources and Temporary and Outside Agency Work.

Picket shift sign-ups
There will be some changes to the picket line locations starting the week of November 11. Please take note of the changes when signing up for picket shifts.
