Kailash Satyarthi

Kailash Satyarthi is an Indian social reformer and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who has dedicated his life to ending child labor and advocating for children’s rights around the world. Born in 1954 in Vidisha, India, Satyarthi left a promising career as an electrical engineer to fight for the freedom, education, and safety of vulnerable children.

In 1980, he founded Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save the Childhood Movement), which has rescued more than 100,000 children from exploitation, trafficking, and forced labor. His grassroots activism often involved direct raids on factories and brick kilns, liberating children from dangerous and inhumane conditions.

Satyarthi’s work extends beyond rescue missions. He has been a global voice for systemic change, pushing for stronger laws, corporate accountability, and access to quality education. In 2014, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, which he shared with Malala Yousafzai, for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people.

A believer in the power of collective action, Satyarthi launched the 100 Million Campaign, a youth-led movement to ensure every child is free, safe, and educated. His tireless efforts continue to influence international policy and inspire a new generation of activists across the globe.
