Mental health professionals in the Elk Grove Unified School District ratified a new union contract that will raise salaries at least 4 percent over the next two years.
The agreement covers more than 80 NUHW members, including mental health therapists, behavioral support specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and certified occupational therapy assistants.
In addition to retroactive raises that top out at five percent, the contract includes:
- A $1,000 one-time Health and Welfare Benefit allocation to be paid by September 30, 2025.
- A provision guaranteeing that employees will not be disciplined without cause and a process to address office space issues that includes the help of a union representative or steward.
- Increased bereavement leave from three to five days and the right for workers to designate an additional person as a family member for purposes of sick leave, including close individuals not related by marriage or blood.
- The ability for workers to use part of the $2,000 professional development and training fund they’re issued every three years to purchase professional supplies such as books, student incentives, reinforcers, and rewards.
“This contract helps us stay competitive with other nearby school districts so we can retain experienced and valuable staff,” said Behavior Support Specialist Marissa Bagaso. “I’m proud of my coworkers for securing good raises, and I’m excited to serve our students this year and in the years to come.”
