The National Union of Healthcare Workers opposes the Trump Administration’s attempt to end gender-affirming care for minors
The National Union of Healthcare Workers, which represents 19,000 healthcare workers including nearly 6,000 mental health professionals, is fiercely opposed to rules proposed by the Trump Administration that would effectively enact a nationwide ban on gender-related care for minors by threatening to pull federal funding for any hospital that offers such treatment.
“Our union believes that everyone should be able to receive the care they need and that medical decisions should be made by families in consultation with their doctors — not by government fiat,” NUHW President Emeritus Sal Rosselli said. “Trans kids endure potentially life-threatening trauma navigating who they are in a culture that targets them for abuse. By denying them and their families access to best-practice medical care, the Trump Administration is putting lives in jeopardy and causing devastating emotional distress on children and their parents who simply want to exercise their right to make healthcare decisions that are right for them. NUHW is ready to work with allies in opposing this rule and support hospitals in pushing back against the Trump Administration and preserve gender-affirming care.”
