IBHS one-day strike: March 18, 2026

We had a successful strike yesterday with strong turnout, extensive media coverage and great support from the California Nurses Association, IUOE, Local 39 and many allies from across the region.

Overall more than 1,000 Kaiser clinicians attended strike lines across the region. Away from the picket lines, clinicians spoke with statewide political and union leaders in Sacramento as part of the California Labor Federation’s Lobby Day.

Photos from every picket line are below.

Our rallies were punctuated by powerful speakers including California Labor Federation President Lorena Gonzalez, Assemblymember Jasmeet Bains, MD, and former San Francisco Supervisor Jane Kim, who is our endorsed candidate for California Insurance Commissioner, as well as many local elected officials and union leaders.

Our strike, and the issues that underpinned it, generated national coverage by NPR and The Associated Press, whose story also ran internationally. The Guardian is also working on a national story. In California, coverage included Politico, KTVU-2, KRON-4, KTSF, NBC Bay Area, Sacramento Bee, Fox-40 (Sacramento), ABC-10 (Sacramento), Telemundo (Sacramento), Sacramento Business Journal, KCBS News Radio, the Bay Area Current, Peoples World, LA Progressive, San Jose Mercury News/Vacaville Reporter, and the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

We also conveyed our message publicly via mobile billboard trucks that drove around Oakland and Sacramento.

This strike put Kaiser on notice that we will not be silent as they try to roll back all our past victories and threaten our jobs and the quality of care we can provide. But we’ve got a long way to go to win the contract we need.
