Jackie Schallit

Jackie Schalit is a marriage and family therapist at Children’s Hospital Oakland.

What inspired you to pursue a career in behavioral health?

When I heard someone speak about Infant-Parent Psychotherapy about 25 years ago, and later became trained in the model, I quickly felt I had found my passion. Being able to meet families where they are in the community, and find ports of entry to often break intergenerational struggles, is deeply gratifying, and I am inspired daily by the families I work with. One of the best parts of my job is that I get to work with babies and young children — they are amazing.

How has being in NUHW helped you in your profession?

Becoming a member of NUHW has given me an opportunity to be a strong advocate for the needs of the families I serve and create better working conditions for caregivers. This has helped me become a better therapist and has deepened my commitment to my job and co-workers.
