With our picket lines now starting at 8 a.m., we got a little more sleep and had a little extra energy out on the lines. At LAMC, we got an extra boost from a visit by Congressman Jimmy Gomez and members of Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE).
Meanwhile, Kaiser is starting to feel the heat from state officials. We expect to get a copy today of Kaiser’s strike contingency plan and meet with Department of Managed Health Care officials on Wednesday to report the patient care problems that we’ve learned about so far during the strike. If you have additional information, please let your steward/bargaining team/organizer know or email research@nuhw.org.
After those officials meet with us, they’re scheduled to meet with Kaiser officials in Southern California, where they can investigate whether Kaiser is providing legally required care during the strike.
We’re continuing our outreach to patients, asking them not to cancel appointments and to inform our Research Department if their appointment has been canceled or delayed. In addition to patient stories, we’re getting letters of support like this one:
To whoever reads this,
There are so many of us fellow therapists out here wishing you and everyone striking well-being and success. I also donated to the support fund. Thank you for everything you’re doing. The system has to change.
Kind Regards,
Ari Neubauer
Linda Cortes spoke on the picket line recently about why she’s strike.

Halloween Day of Action
We’re hoping to get nearly all of us together in West L.A. for a Halloween treat. It’s not too late to fill out this form to let us know if you would take a shuttle bus from your picket location to the West L.A. Medical Center for a spooky good time.
Strike updates
With the strike in full swing, we’re going to transition to sending these updates three days per week: Mondays, Fridays, and whichever day of the week we hold our special action for people to gather at a single picket line.
