Rian Dixon is a Behavior Specialist at Rogers Mental Health in Walnut Creek.
What inspired you to pursue a career in behavioral health?
I was inspired to go into psychology, specifically clinical mental health/behavioral health, by my little sister who struggled with mental health issues from a young age. I saw how effective behavioral therapy was for her and wanted to help others learn more about their diagnosis and how to treat them.
How has being in NUHW helped you in your profession?
NUHW has touched my life along with my colleagues’ lives so deeply. We have seen how collective action can give the individual worker their power back. Our jobs have felt more stable and more enjoyable since becoming unionized. Our employer isn’t able to change our schedules or add additional responsibilities to our workload when we’re already stretched in the healthcare industry.
