State Legislature honors NUHW’s Sal Rosselli as LGBTQ icon

NUHW President Emeritus Sal Rosselli was one of 16 LGBTQ leaders honored this month by both houses of the California State Legislature for their contributions to the state.

In presenting Sal with a “Pride Honoree” plaque, State Senator Scott Wiener described him as “one of the most respected labor leaders around … for decades and decades fighting for working people.”

Senator Wiener, who has carried NUHW bills to improve access to mental health care, added:

“And what has always really been so apparent to me with Sal and the union is that, yes it’s about the workers … but it’s also about the patients, and Sal takes that very very broad view — and for that we are deeply appreciative.”

Following the June 3 ceremony, Sal said, “I’m honored to receive this recognition, and I am grateful to NUHW members for fighting for what’s right and making our union a force for good in our state and our country.”
