Jennicet Gutiérrez

Jennicet Gutiérrez is a Latina transgender organizer and activist who is fighting for the inclusion of LGBTQ+ individuals’ rights within the immigration debate. As a founder of Familia: Trans Queer Liberation Movement (F:TQLM), she is recognized for shedding light on the plight of transgender women in immigration detention centers. Gutiérrez gained national attention in 2015 when she interrupted President Obama during his White House speech in honor of Pride month to call attention to the struggles of Trans immigrant women. “In the tradition of how Pride started,” said Gutiérrez, “I interrupted his speech because it is time for our issues and struggles to be heard. I stood for what is right.”
