Kaiser Mental Health Care Strike: Day 82

Kudos to Jason Gillard, a Kaiser social worker, who called into The Sarah Silverman Podcast to bring attention to our strike to her many listeners.

Jason called in at the 7:19 mark of the show and explained that: “We just want what everyone else has, and we’re having to fight so hard.”

Silverman, a comedian and actor who now also hosts a podcast replied:

All I can really offer is encouragement. You’re fighting the good fight. And what you do is crucial – now more than ever. And, you absolutely must be compensated like any other vital health care professional.

Jesus Christ, I know this Kaiser strike has been going on a while.

As somebody who is in the Writers Guild and SAG strikes that went on for a really long time as well, physically showing up and picketing helps … in terms of your mental health, I think it really helps. One, the solidarity…. And two, and I’m not kidding, the exercise. I would look at my steps after picketing and I was like, “whoa!

The podcast is available on iTunes and Spotify.

Bargaining update
With Kaiser having cancelled our bargaining session that had been scheduled for yesterday due to the wildfires, we are scheduled to resume bargaining with Kaiser Thursday, January 16.

Town hall update
Since there was no bargaining session this week, the all-member Town Hall has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday, January 19 via Zoom.

Picket line update
As of now, the plan is to return to picket lines on Monday, but that could change based on the status of the wildfires and air quality. Once again, here is a list of resources that might be helpful.
